Two rescued macaques enjoy each other’s company at a sanctuary in Indonesia

You helped macaque Amel find her very best friend

News

You recently helped rescue Amel from the cruel dancing monkey trade in Indonesia. Now, she’s thriving with her new best friend Meli – take a look as they enjoy their special monkey spa day!

Since her rescue, gentle Amel has been recovering in quarantine with our partners at Jakarta Animal Aid Network. And it’s all thanks to her beautiful friendship with lively Meli, who loves to take care of her friend with regular grooming sessions to keep her looking her best.

Watch the video to see Amel and Meli enjoy a well-deserved beauty treatment:

Amel is a little bit older than Meli and needs a bit more time to get healthy before she can be released into a bigger enclosure with lots of other macaques. But their carers hope they’ll both soon be ready to be released back into the wild, where they can go on even bigger adventures together.

Thank you for taking care of Amel, Meli and their friends as they get ready to return to the wild.

Animals, not entertainers

Across the globe, animals at wildlife tourism venues are forced to endure intense pain and mostly unseen suffering to entertain tourists and visitors on a daily basis.

Our wildlife work

Around the world, wild animals are being exploited. They’re hunted down, trapped and farmed in captivity, all to be sold and abused for entertainment, medicine, fashion, pets and products.
