Compliance problems revealed for Live Export: Welfare breaches number thousands
News
World Animal Protection find it distressing to see the cruelty sheep have suffered in the Middle East on our screens again as ABC’s 7.30 aired an exposé on Live Export following the Festival of Sacrifice, once more highlighting the inherent cruelty of this industry.
Credit to investigators from Animals Australia and 7.30 for revealing the extent of the compliance problem in the live export industry. They say potentially thousands of Australian sheep were treated with extreme cruelty in breach of the controls that are supposed to protect them
The Australian public expect animals to be protected and, where there is failure to do so, particularly when cruelty is deliberate, expect that those responsible will be prosecuted.
Prosecutions must follow along with a realisation that the live export industry poses insurmountable risks to animal welfare and should be brought to an end.
