You deserve better and KFC can do better

KFC Australia are serving you and your family second rate chicken. KFC in the United Kingdom and six countries in Europe have committed to giving their chickens more room to move to keep them happy and healthy. They’ve agreed to use slower growing breeds with fewer health problems. They’ve also promised to give chickens access to natural light. This is all part of the Better Chicken Commitment.

As KFC in the UK have acknowledged, “animal welfare is essential for high quality food”. Why won’t KFC Australia do the same? Why are they still serving you lower quality chicken? If KFCs in countries as small as Belgium or The Netherlands can afford to give their chickens more room to move, a natural growth rate, and access to daylight, why can’t Australian chickens receive the same?

It’s bad for the chickens and it’s bad for us – what a clucking joke! Chickens deserve better and so do you. Call on KFC to sign the Better Chicken Commitment.

If there’s one thing Australians hate, it’s losing a competition. Especially to the Poms! Well, when it comes to fried chicken, the UK is winning. Do we want to settle for second best? No. KFC in the UK and six countries in Europe have signed the Better Chicken Commitment but KFC Australia is falling behind.

To give you an idea, just imagine: if the Sydney Cricket Ground was an Aussie factory farm, it would be hold more than 480,000 chickens! Each chicken would have less space throughout their life than the seat you sit on during the game. Having such limited room to move is “just not cricket”. And not a life worth living.

Tell KFC Australia to sign the Better Chicken Commitment

We know a better way is possible. KFC in the UK and six countries in Europe are showing us the way. Now we need to make sure KFC Australia signs the Better Chicken Commitment today. Tell them to stop treating Australian chickens cruelly and to stop serving up second-rate chicken to their customers.

KFC’s Double Standards

Chickens served by KFC Australia are among the millions raised in factory farms in Australia each year. These chickens are tightly packed with up to 60 thousand birds being housed in a single shed. As the chickens grow larger, they face restrictions on their ability to express natural behaviours such as roaming around and flapping their wings.

Fast-growing breeds are used which means chickens grow to their full size in an average of just six weeks. This accelerated growth rate, combined with low light levels and insufficient space to move, may lead to serious health problems including heart and lung problems, muscle weakness, and lameness. KFC is serving you second-rate chickens from low welfare farms where health problems are widespread. But we know a better way is possible.
