Uproar about Brisbane Lions' plans

AFL club Brisbane Lions announces plans to bring a live lion into the stadium on match day.

Head of Campaigns for World Animal Protection, Nicola Beynon said:

“Animal entertainment is animal abuse.

“Lions are wild animals and they belong in the wild – they should not be paraded around a stadium for entertainment at a football game.

“The suffering that wild animals must endure to be exploited for the entertainment of people is totally unacceptable.

“We would urge the Brisbane Lions to seriously reconsider this stunt and we have approached them to discuss more positive ways that they can protect their beloved mascot in the wild. We look forward to hearing back from them.”
