Meet Eva who is now enjoying her forest surroundings at the Zarnesti sanctuary, Romania.
Your valuable support has also helped us to free yet another bear from cruel captive conditions in Romania. It’s hard to believe, but at 32 years of age Eva had spent her entire life stuck in the same cage at Brăila zoo.
The long-awaited rescue
When the rescue team arrived from Asociatia Milioane De Prieteni (AMP) our partner organisation in Romania, Eva gently made her way into her transportation cage and waited to be taken to the World Animal Protection-funded Zarnesti sanctuary, a journey that has changed her life.
For the first time in 32 years, Eva finally stepped into the forest where she was surrounded by oak trees. She’s making friends with the other bears here, and is loving her new, open, free surroundings.
Thank you for helping us to rescue Eva, and giving her a new beginning.
Our forest sanctuary is finally complete
Thanks to your invaluable support for our Romanian bear campaign over the last eight years, our forest sanctuary is now complete. Eva has joined 78 other bears in Europe’s largest bear sanctuary. Like Eva, each of these bears has been rescued from cruel, captive conditions throughout Romania.
This amazing work could not have been done without your support. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing our passion to protect animals. With eight more bears to go, we hope you will continue to support World Animal Protection as we finally put an end to the captivity of bears in Romania.
