How you’ve helped animals around the world in 2018

News

With your support, we were able to protect dogs in communities from rabies, save animals in disasters, improve the lives of farm animals, and work to end the cruelty experienced by wild animals in the entertainment industry.

Here’s a snapshot of some of the achievements you’ve helped make possible this year:

  • More than 41,000 Aussies joined our global petition of over 510,000 people urging KFC to end cruelty to chickens.

  • With your help, we’re funding a landmark study to test the feasibility of a sea sanctuary in the Coffs Harbour area in collaboration with Action for Dolphins and Dolphin Marine Magic. We recently hosted a cross-industry roundtable to scope various aspects of the study, with the hope that we may see the last five captive dolphins in New South Wales moved to a better environment.

  • Over the year, we held seven beach cleans in Sydney, Melbourne, the Sunshine Coast, the Gold Coast and Wollongong. Thanks to our 163 keen volunteers, we collected 298.5 kilos of rubbish.

  • As part of our work to promote animal-friendly travel, we assessed the conditions of 1,500 wild animals kept captive in Bali, Lombok and Gili Trawangan. Of the 26 venues visited, 100% of those with captive wild elephants, tigers, dolphins or civet cats, and 80% of those with captive wild primates did not meet even the basic needs of captive wild animals. Because of this investigation, Qantas, Hello World and Flight Centre have committed to stop selling and promoting to these cruel venues.

None of these achievements would have been possible without your support.

Thank you. Together we’re moving the world to protect animals.
