Changes to ESCAS

16/09/2014

The recent announcement by Barnaby Joyce that ESCAS regulations are disappointing in that they focus on reducing paper work rather than protecting animals.

The export of live animals is inherently cruel and high risk. The Government should be prioritising animal welfare and promoting a transition to the more humane chilled and frozen meat trade. Instead the government is working to open up new markets to live animal exports which can only mean putting more Australian animals at risk of cruelty.

We call on Mr Joyce to protect Australian animals and bring the cruelty of live animal exports to an end.
